Two main reasons why people didn’t like their intern experience

Presently, it is really fashionable to be an intern. Parents, colleagues, teachers at uni – literally all of them were convincing me that it is beneficial to do it as well as that it wouldl be very useful experience. Unfortunately, I was naïve enough to believe them , and made a decision to do my internship during my holidays.

The competition for the position was pretty rough. They checked my foreign languages and analytical skills. Therefore, I was totally sure that this internship will be something meaningful – probably I may have been too sure – I should say that I didn’t even question any detailed description of the scope of future duties.

Back then I was simply so happy with the fact that I received the intern offer, that I didn’t think to ask about important info. Back then it was ok for me to know the firm in which I was about to do the internship in. Now I do know that such approach was rather a big mistake. Unluckily, I believe that that lesson was in fact the only useful thing I learnt from this internship experience.

Before I thought that during any internship I could learn this kind of knowledge as well as skills which are applicable also to another similar position. Sadly, while conducting this internship I was mostly conducting those tasks that no other worker wanted to do. I know that somebody always has to do these stuff , but at the same time I wanna learn something useful during my intrnship.

Unluckily, I didn’t. To be honest I learnt a lot about NY city and its surroundings as I was helping everybody else doing the most boring things that they did’t want to do. Ironically, I became familiar where to do law cost custom printing nyc or where to find best coffee in the town. However I don’t believe that this is the type of knowledge I was supposted to gain from the internship.

What is more, they didn’t pay me anything. I am aware that I was not an employee so I don’t have any precious experience they can need, but I was still doing some things they would pay for their workers to do. So, I really think that they should reimburse me at least symbolic amount of money. Just to show that they appreciated my commitment.
